Richard Stokes
of Caister CC has been awarded the first Player of the Month
award of the 2008 season for his consistency of performance
over the course of May, with his total run haul of 257 including
four scores of 50 or more at an average of 51.40. Narrowly
beating several other very worthy contenders for this award,
the Lucas Fettes Norfolk Cricket League Committee felt that
Richard's contribution had played a very large part in helping
Caister to the top of Division 2 following successive promotions
from Division 4 since 2006.
Also nominated: Julian Dismore
(Norwich Union 'B' - Division 10) scored a total of 255 runs,
including two 50s and one century, John Holmes (Kirkley
Sports - Division 3) scored 184 runs and also took 9 wickets
at an average of 11.22, Ferlin Cross (also of Kirkley
Sports) took 12 wickets at 12.25 and Graham Puttock
(Rocklands 'A' - Division 8) scored a total of 229 runs with
a top score of 95 not out.
There were two other individuals who deserve special mention,
and not least because of their respective ages. Adam Dismore
(Norwich Union B - Division 10) attained his maiden league
50 in the first game of the season, and went on to turn it
into his maiden century! Eventually falling for 109, this
14 year-old played - according to the citation accompanying
the nomination - a 'terrific knock against some excellent
bowling'. Also attaining his maiden league 50 in May was 15
year-old Marcus Evans (Bradenham 'A' - Division 4),
hitting a 'string of scorching boundaries' on his way to an
unbeaten 76 that almost single-handedly ensured a winning
result for the team.
